One night a clever farmer was returning home from a cattle fair. He bought a buffalo from there.

从前有个聪明的农夫，一天夜晚，他从集市上买了一头水牛带回家。

As he passed through a dense forest, a mugger came in front of him. He had a thick stick in his hand. He said, 'Hand over all that you have.'

当他穿过一片茂密的森林的时候，一个强盗钻了出来。他手里拿着一根粗粗的木棍，对农夫说：“把你的东西都交出来！”

The farmer got scared and gave his money to the mugger. As he turned to go, the mugger said, 'Give me the buffalo too. Why are you taking it away?'

农夫吓坏了，赶紧把钱都给了强盗。他正要走的时候，强盗说：“把你的牛也给我。你还想带它走？”

The farmer handed over the buffalo's rope to the mugger. Then the farmer said, ''You have taken everything of mine. Can you give me your stick?'

农夫把牵牛的绳子递给了强盗，说：“你把我所有的东西都拿走了，那你能把你的棍子给我吗？”

'Why do you need it?' the mugger asked. 'My wife will be pleased that at least I got a stick from the fair.'

“你要棍子做什么”,强盗问。“至少我从集市带了根棍子回去，这样我老婆也高兴点。”农夫说。

The mugger gave the stick to the farmer happily. Immediately the clever farmer started beating the mugger with the stick.

于是强盗愉快地把棍子递给了农夫。农夫一拿到棍子就开始揍强盗。

The mugger ran off to save his life leaving the buffalo and the farmer's money behind. So the clever farmer saved himself and his belongings too.

强盗飞快地逃跑了，牛也没拿，钱也没拿。于是聪明的农夫平安地把财物带回了家。
